2a. Tsarist fortifications – Work No. 10 in Janówek Drugi
In 1912, in the vicinity of Janówek Drugi,
Russian sappers started the construction
of two concrete forts belonging to the
outer line of defence of the Modlin Fortress
(Nowogieorgiewsk). The larger Fort No XVIII fenced off the way from Modlin to Jabłonna,
while the smaller one – the so-called ‘Work
No. 10’, was built on the edge of a small
dune in the wilderness known as Kadzielnia.
During the war in 1915, the unfinished forts
were garrisoned by the 19th company of the
Nowogieorgijewsk Fortress Artillery, while
the military company staff and the sub-unit
of the 626th Tambov general militia squad
were quartered in the backyard premises
in Boża Wola (then Konstantynów).
It is worth noting that among the defenders of the fortress, there were many Poles from the Kingdom of Poland, who were, in autumn 1914, called to arms by the Russians.
The concrete fortifications have been preserved in vestigial form of blocks decimated by explosions.
